Churches have been recording their sermons for years, he says, but now, with websites as electronic front doors and with easy access to MP3 files, church members and religious surfers alike are listening to and sharing sermons, giving the spoken word much wider circulation. Since churches already have microphones and recording equipment, all they need is a little help to get sermons online. He tracks the increase in sermon downloads with a recent surge in pastoral blogs, which now number in the hundreds, he estimates.
