Oren R. Lyons is a professor of American studies at State University of New York, Buffalo. He is a faithkeeper in the Turtle Clan of the Onondaga Nation, responsible for maintaining and representing customs and traditions of his people. He publishes Daybreak, a national American Indian magazine.

Suzan Shown Harjo, who is Cheyenne and Hodulgee Muscogee, is president of the Morning Star Institute, a national Indian rights organization. She helps Native Americans regain the land that was taken from them, and preserved many sacred places.

Carol S. Anderson is an associate professor in the departments of religion and women’s studies at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich. She wrote a chapter about Gauri Ma in The Graceful Guru: Hindu Female Gurus in India and the United States.

Jeremy Gunn is director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s new Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief. The ACLU filed an amicus brief in support of UDV.

Lee Boothby is a civil rights and employment lawyer in Washington, D.C. He was vice president of the International Academy for Freedom of Religion and Belief, which filed an amicus brief in support of UDV.

Anthony Picarello Jr. is associate general secretary of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He filed an amicus brief supporting UDV on behalf of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.

Nancy Hollander of Freedman Boyd Hollander Goldberg Urias & Ward P.A. in Albuquerque, N.M., was the attorney representing the UDV.
