Salman Hameed is an astronomer and associate professor of integrated science and humanities in the School of Cognitive Science at Hampshire College in Hamilton, Mass. He is director of the Center for the Study of Science in Muslim Societies. One of his areas of study is the relationship between religion and science, especially Islam, and he teaches a course called “Aliens: Close Encounters of a Multidisciplinary Kind.” He operates the science and religion blog Irtiqa, which emphasizes debates about science in the Islamic world.
